Your Rights Matter – We Make Sure They are Heard

Mental Health

Having been established in 2003, our Mental Health department has a proven record of providing expert advice and support in this complex area of law. We are passionate about the work we do and are dedicated to providing our clients a high quality of service. Our department is committed to protecting and furthering the rights of those most vulnerable, at the time they need support the most.

At all times we endeavour to achieve the client’s goal and strive to obtain the best possible outcome to every matter. We do so by representing individuals subject to the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended 2007), whether in hospital, or in the community. We also provide advice and assistance to their family members, on issues arising following their relative’s detention in hospital or matters arising in the community.

We provide representation at Tribunal and Hospital Managers hearings. The advocacy at Tribunal hearings is provided by a member of the Law Society’s Mental Health Accreditation Scheme, with a wealth of experience and a proven track record of protecting patient rights. We provide our services locally and on a national level.

We routinely represent clients in the following areas:

Obtaining access to mental health services
Appeals against detention under a civil or forensic section of the Mental Health Act
Prisoners transferred to hospital
Community patients subject to a community treatment order
Conditionally discharged patients
Voluntary patients in hospital
Patients who lack capacity
Nearest relative applications for discharge and displacement proceedings
Complaints regarding treatment
Securing after care services
Unlawful detention
Judicial review proceedings
Care programme approach meetings
